Royal Update: Major Megxit revelations, public duties resume and more

Here's what's happening in the royal family as public duties resume...

From shocking legal revelations and presidential phone calls to farm visits and bee-keeping, the Queen and her family have had a busy week. To catch up with our favorite crowned crew, we rounded up what the British Royal Family have been up to in the last week.

PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE OFFICIALLY SHUT DOWN SUSSEX ROYAL CHARITY: The former Duke and Duchess of Sussex have filed paperwork to dissolve their royal foundation as the couple shift their focus to the Prince’s eco-tourism scheme ‘Travalyst’.

The company – which has been set up independently – hopes to help the hard-hit tourism industry survive the coronavirus crisis and ‘change the impact of travel'.

The couple's move to disband their charitable organization follows the Queen's decision that Harry and Meghan can no longer use the word 'royal' in their 'branding'.

Meghan Markle 'embarrassed' Prince Harry at Princess Eugenie's wedding, a new book has claimed.

NEW BOOK ALLEGES BAD ROYAL BLOOD: According to a new book, Meghan Markle reportedly 'embarrassed' Prince Harry by announcing her pregnancy on Princess Eugenie's wedding day in a 'huge social gaffe' that left the bride and her mother Sarah Ferguson 'furious'.

The authors, investigative journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett, pointed out the move was inappropriate ’even if you were not a royal’ and that the couple stole ‘the limelight from Eugenie’.

The bride’s mother, Fergie, appeared to go into social media overdrive when the official announcement was made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when she tweeted at the exact time of the official announcement before posting three further messages saying how proud she was of her daughter and new son-in-law Jack – but made no mention of Harry and Meghan. Prince Andrew retweeted his wife, but also made no mention of his nephew.

A HAPPY BIRTHDAY CALL FROM THE PRESIDENT: President Donald Trump gave the Queen a quick ring on Tuesday to wish her a Happy Birthday. Although the president has recently been criticized for his ‘demeaning’ phone calls with other female leaders — CNN reported Trump once called German leader Angela Merkel ‘stupid’ to her face — the American president is fond of the Queen and has said the two have ‘automatic chemistry’.

A White House spokesman noted the call in a statement that read: 'The President wished the Queen a happy birthday, marking 94 extraordinary years. The President also expressed his condolences for the British people who have lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic.’

The call comes at a challenging time for the US and UKs ‘special relationship’, as pressure mounts on the Queen’s son Prince Andrew to submit to FBI questioning about his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

PRINCE CHARLES LOOKS AS HAPPY AS A PIG IN MUD ON FARM VISIT: The Prince of Wales championed Britain's rural tourism when he visited celebrity farmer Adam Henson's farm attraction – and found himself surrounded by piglets.

Charles, a passionate farmer himself, was keen to learn how the attraction and a 1,600-acre holding both run by Henson were coping during the pandemic that has seen businesses suffer financially. Henson said he knew why Prince Charles chose to visit, ‘to get it out there, the value of rural tourism, rare breeds, conservation and education.’

ROYAL EXPERT CLAIMS KATE MIDDLETON IS LIKE THE QUEEN: According to royal author Victoria Murphy, Kate Middleton is more similar to the Queen than Princess Diana, due to her introvert nature and love of the outdoors.

Speaking about the Duchess of Cambridge, 38, Murphy said that Kate was 'still more of a team player than leader', but had grown in confidence since joining the Royal Family almost a decade ago.

The comparison comes at a pivotal time for the Monarchy. Queen Elizabeth will turn 95 next year – the same age at which her husband Philip withdrew from his public duties – and there is talk among courtiers that she may use the milestone to effectively hand over day-to-day control of the monarchy to Charles.

JAMES MIDDLETON REFLECTS ON THE DELIGHTS OF CARING FOR HIS BEE COLONIES: He may be the future Queen’s brother, but at heart, James Middleton loves the simple things in life — especially the great outdoors and his bees. 'I’d always harboured a longing to keep bees,’ the 33-year-old said in a MailOnline column. ‘Then, my family —mum, dad and my sisters Catherine and Pippa — clubbed together to buy what for me was the most fantastic birthday gift imaginable… live bees.’

He continued: ‘I now have almost half a million bees in eight hives in a meadow at our family home, Bucklebury Manor in Berkshire. And I’ve whiled away many happy hours with them during lockdown.’

Meghan Markle felt 'unprotected by the royal institution' because palace press officers could not defend her.

MORE MEGXIT REVELATIONS REVEALED IN COURT: In papers filed in the High Court this week, Meghan Markle claimed she felt ‘unprotected’ by the Royal ‘institution’ and ‘prohibited from defending herself’ during her time in the Firm.

The allegations are said to have deeply hurt the Queen and the rest of the Royal family while The Times reported the palace struggled to defend the Duchess of Sussex because the media reports were inherently true.

Meghan’s legal papers also say the media coverage caused ‘damage to her mental health’ and that her friends stepped in to defend her in an article published in People, 'as her friends had never seen her in this state before’.

Meghan is suing MailOnline's owner Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over an article in The Mail On Sunday that shared parts of a handwritten note she had sent to her father Thomas Markle in August 2018. She claims publication was a breach of her privacy; the newspaper denies the claim.

PRINCE GEORGE SPOILED BY HIS GODMOTHER: Prince George's godmother Julia Samuels has revealed that she buys the 'feisty and cheeky' royal 'impossible' noisy toys which take Prince William 'days to put together' in a running joke inspired by Princess Diana who used to gift similar pressies to Samuels’ children.

‘You never think one person can change the world and then you see someone like her,’ Samuels said reflecting on her relationship with the late princess. 'Diana would have loved him [George] so much,’ she continued. ‘That is heartbreaking for all of them'.
