Months ago, Woman’s Day claimed that the Duke of Sussex dropped the Windsor-Mountbatten surname because he’s practically cutting ties with his relatives. However, Gossip Cop quickly debunked the claims by the tabloid.

An unnamed source initially told the tabloid that the Sussexes didn’t use Prince Harry’s Mountbatten-Windsor surname when they signed their new charity. But the rumor-debunking site clarified that this surname shouldn’t be registered under the couple’s charity because this isn’t Prince Harry’s family name.

The royal couple’s son, Archie Harrison is using the surname Mountbatten-Windsor as a tribute to Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth. His aunt, Lady Louise is also using the same surname. However, no other member of the royal family is using Mountbatten-Windsor as their surname because they usually just go by their royal titles.

While Prince Harry was still in the military, he was referred to as Officer Cadet Wales. The Wales surname was from Prince Charles’ official title as the Prince of Wales.

Prince William also used the same surname while he was in the military. And he was referred to as Lieutenant Wales during this time. However, he and Prince Harry never used the Mountbatten-Windsor family name.

The Duke of Sussex’s full name is Prince Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex. According to Gossip Cop, Archie’s dad doesn’t have an official last name.

Prince William, on the other hand, is known as Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, Duke of Cambridge. He doesn’t also have an official last name.

Prince Harry’s name is listed as HRH Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex on his son’s birth certificate. His wife Meghan Markle’s name is listed as Rachel Meghan HRH The Duchess of Sussex.

Once again, the surnames of Prince Harry and Markle aren’t mentioned in their son’s birth certificate.

Gossip Cop said that Prince Harry didn’t drop the Mountbatten-Windsor surname following his bombshell exit because he never used this surname. He simply didn’t register it as part of his new charity because he has never used this family name.

Now that he and Markle are no longer senior working royals, they have also been stripped of their titles by Queen Elizabeth. As such, he is now simply known as Prince Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex.
