When it comes to the difference between taking the plunge in terms of your goals or talking yourself out of doing something, it really just boils down to mindset. Here are some methods that you can use to not only go after, but get what you want:

Set a clear vision and lay out the path. You must solidify your vision and create the roadmap to success. If you don’t know where you’re going, how are you going to get there?

Remind yourself of all that you have to offer. Yes, you! You’ve got so many wonderful traits and attributes. You’re smart, kind, capable and tenacious. Give yourself a reminder when you’re in doubt.

Figure out what’s in it for you. It’s always helpful to determine why you want to get to where you’re aiming. That knowledge will enable you to work out the details in terms of your how.

Focus on best case scenarios. Envision what you want to happen actually unfolding by leaning into a positive mindset and drawing on your confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll have a hard time getting others to believe in you.

Plan for what could go sideways. As much as you want everything to go perfectly, have a Plan B just in case and put methods in place to overcome setbacks.

Get a mentor or co-collaborator. Why do it alone when you can get help or advice from others. Lean into additional collaborators.

Take stock. What resources do you have and which do you need to get in order to achieve your goals. Find a way to fill the gaps.

Reward yourself for your effort. Stop and congratulate yourself from time to time for all of the hard work that you’ve put in. That celebration will give you the motivation to keep going.

Play the long game. Nothing is ever quick and easy. Develop the patience that you need to make the long journey to where you want to end up.
