These celebs are unloading property in the pandemic - and losing millions

Property prices are dropping in cities across the US — and these celebrity pads are not immune

COVID-19 has hit the property market hard, including the homes of the super-rich. From the colossal loss on Jennifer Lawrence’s New York penthouse to Mathew Perry’s 'cut-rate' LA apartment, here are the celebrities who are losing big in the effort to unload real estate during this unprecedented time...

JENNIFER LAWRENCE: Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence finally sold her sprawling New York City penthouse last week - but she suffered a colossal $5.7 million loss on the asking price to do so. The Oscar-winning actress, 29, originally asked $15.6 million for the property, then slashed the price to $12 million before it finally sold for $9.9 million after a year on the market.

What does a little shy of $10 million buy you these days in the former coronavirus epicenter of NYC? According to the listing, J-Law's pad stretches across 4,073 square feet and features city views on all sides. The condominium is located in a 30-floor building called The Laurel on East 67th St, with a key lock elevator and a doorman. The property features eight rooms, including a master suite with a dressing room, a screening room and a billiards room.

WENDY WILLIAMS: Wendy Williams and ex-husband Kevin Hunter finally sold their New Jersey home this week, following the couple's high-profile divorce. The five-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion sold for $1.475 million - down significantly from the initial $2 million asking price, according to TMZ.

The former couple's real estate agent Jamie Silverman told the gossip site that 'the reason for the price reduction was the COVID-19 pandemic.' The 5,700 square foot home boasts a master suite with huge walk-in closets, a marble bath, jacuzzi and steam shower. The profits from the recently-sold New Jersey home will be split 50/50 between the pair.

MATTHEW PERRY: Matthew Perry has been trying to sell his lush LA penthouse for close to a year - and now he's lowered the asking price by $8 million. The Friends star, 50, is selling his almost 9,300 square foot condo on the 40th floor of The Century, an uber-upscale luxury high-rise apartment building that is adjacent to ritzy Beverly Hills.

Originally placed on the market in August 2019 at an asking price of $35 million – at the time the most expensive condominium listed in LA, according to Page Six – the sale page for the property now pegs it at 'just' $27 million. The pictures of the spacious apartment feature crushed velvet galore and quirky touches from Perry himself – including various Batman-themed items.

LIAM PAYNE: Liam Payne has knocked even more millions off his sprawling southern California estate in a bid to finally offload the property in the midst of the pandemic. The One Direction star has now listed the semi-remote, Spanish-style home for $10,750,000 - a $3.25 million drop from what he originally hoped to gain from this palatial pad.

Liam first listed the five-bedroom home for $13,999,000 in January 2018, but after a lack of realistic bids the price was cut by a million dollars, with the exclusive address available for $12,999,000 from February 2019. Then in October that year the Strip That Down singer dropped his asking price even further to $11.2 million, making the property a bargain for anyone hoping to set up home in the rugged Monte Nito mountains. The British singer's latest price drop means he'll only take away $750,000 in the sale, which will drop further once his agents' commissions are paid.

LORI LOUGHLIN: In January, scandal-hit star Lori Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli listed their former Bel-Air home for $28.65 million - but they reportedly ended up selling it for much less in July this year.

The couple are expected to serve jail time later this year for taking part in a college bribery scheme to get their daughters into a top school. In the meantime, it seems the Full House star and her husband have decided to downsize, after recently purchasing a $9.5 million home in the Hidden Hills area of Los Angeles (pictured). Their new home is said to be a modern farmhouse style design with six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and a comparatively modest 11,748 square foot of space.

CALVIN HARRIS: Calvin Harris has been spending a lot of time at home - and he's using that time to update his massive real estate portfolio. He dropped $15 million on a Beverly Hills compound in 2014, before snatching up a $14 million Bel Air property in 2018. And now the Grammy winner recently put another property - his cozy 6,000 square-foot home in the discreet Los Angeles neighborhood of Hollywood Hills - back on the market for $5.5 million.

Harris bought it a little over two years ago from DJ and record producer Steve Angello for just more than $5 million. He unsuccessfully attempted to unload the gorgeous hideaway last year through Hilton & Hyland for $5.75 million, and rented out the property at the time for $25,000 a month, before dropping the price to just below $20,000.

ADAM LAMBERT: Adam Lambert has sold his home in the Hollywood Hills for $2.92 million after he reduced the asking price from $3.35 million. The 38-year-old singer from Indiana, who shot to fame in 2009 after finishing as runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol, originally put the property on the market last August with a listing price of $3.35 million, according to real estate site Redfin.

Situated above Sunset Strip in North Crescent Heights, the expansive home features three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms and stunning views of the city, visible from the sliding walls of glass that encase the main level of the home. Its private backyard is decked out with dreamy reflecting pools, an outdoor spa, a cozy firepit and a covered lounging area, making it ideal for entertaining.

BILLY BUSH: He tried selling his Los Angeles estate over the spring and summer last year without success. But now Billy Bush is trying once again to offload the property located in the upscale neighborhood of Encino - and has even dropped the price slightly to try and attract a buyer, Variety reported. The TV host, 48, has listed the 5-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath home with a guest house at $5.25 million, compared with his $5.4 million list price in April 2019.

Bush's 5,396 square foot house was designed by Paul Revere Williams and sits on almost an acre behind large gates. The 1,000 square foot guest house offers another two bedrooms and a bathroom. The living room (pictured) has a stone fireplace and a metallic finish on the ceiling along with ceiling-to-floor curtains and a dark polished wood floor.

MELISSA AND JOE GORGA: Real Housewives Of New Jersey stars Melissa and Joe Gorga - both 41 - have listed their New Jersey mansion again. The home, which sits on 2.24 acres, was listed in November 2009 for $4.1 million, but it was taken off the market. In 2010 it was up for sale again at $3.8 million but there were no takers. Then again in 2017 the home was listed, that time at $3.5 million, before it was de-listed. Now the price is $3 million.

There are a total of 16 rooms in the mansion that has frequently been seen on RHONJ. The lavish home is rich with upgrades, including an English slate roof with copper gutters, an Italian marble foyer, dual marble staircases with wrought-iron banisters (pictured) and rounded cedar French doors.
