Angola with shortage of maize seed

Angola has recorded shortage of maize seed since the beginning of this year, due to the prolonged period of drought in the supplying countries it was announced on Thursday in central Huambo province.


The statement was made by the general manger of the national seeds service, Augusto Caetano da Silva when addressing the consultation meeting on production, availability and farmers’ access to seed in Angola.

Without disclosing the stocked quantity, the official added that the seed currently available are far beyond meeting the needs for this cereal in the country.

In the face of the current shortage, Augusto Caetano da Silva urged the government, producers and business people to jointly seek a solution to sort out this problem.
