Trump became Arabs' "idol" overnight
Did his threats and pledges prompt Netanyahu's Gaza ceasefire?
Donald Trump, the new American president, abruptly changed from the "evil" man who wants to "fatten" the slim state of occupation by adding new territories and the inventor of the "Deal of the Century" that includes normalisation, the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, and milking Arab money to the "close" friend of the Arabs and the arch-enemy of occupation. He ended the Gaza Strip massacre and forced Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire "reluctantly."
Many Arab leaders and writers have praised Trump and written poetry about his bravery in forcing Netanyahu to accept a Gaza ceasefire before returning to the White House.
Before making snap judgements about this sudden shift towards this man, his upcoming policies in our region, and the future of the Arab-Israeli conflict after the "Al-Aqsa Flood," its effects, and the wars in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen, consider six key points:
If Trump changes his attitude towards the occupying state, it is not because he disagrees with the state, its wars, killings, racism, or genocide, or because he now cares about Arabs and Muslims. The conflict is with the existing leadership, particularly Benjamin Netanyahu, over personal "grubs." Netanyahu's ingratitude and unrelenting support for Joe Biden, who beat him in the previous elections, are the main culprits. Netanyahu believed Trump's political career was done and he would never run again.
SECOND: Trump prioritises profits. He is adamant that the Arab Middle East contains trillions of dollars that can be harvested to strengthen the American economy and currency, preserve its economic and military dominance in the world, and counter China and Russia's efforts to undermine it. Wealthy Arab nations form the shortest route.
Thirdly, Trump is aware that Netanyahu and his far-right coalition (Likud) are on the brink of disaster, and that his extermination wars have not succeeded in eliminating opposition arms, forcing capitulation, or demolishing their primary foundation in Tehran. Due to his defeats in Gaza, Yemen, and southern Lebanon, these regions may return. Thus, he may want to quickly tame and undermine Netanyahu and provide the groundwork for a new Israeli administration that suits him.
Fourth: Normalising Arab-Israel relations, focusing on Saudi Arabia, is his first Middle Eastern priority in his third term. His first tenure with the UAE and Bahrain started this trend. Since the Gaza and Lebanon genocides have eliminated the idea of "untainted" Israeli leadership, a new one is needed.
Fifth: Since most leaks about Trump's possible change come from Israeli and Zionist American media, Arabs and Muslims, countries, and people must stay attentive and patient. Before Trump's formal announcement of his government and important roles or his inauguration, we must be cautious and patient.
Sixth, Trump's "gifts" to Netanyahu for his promise to enforce the Gaza ceasefire accord are unknown. Our forty-year experience with his Western policies and mindset shows that nothing is free. Leaks suggest that the most significant "Trumpian" gifts are allowing Netanyahu to resume the war with full American support after the first phase of the agreement, securing modern weapon deals, fully covering Gaza war losses from the American and possibly Arab treasuries, lifting sanctions on terrorist settlers, and, most importantly, endorsing West Bank annexation.
Unfortunately, Trump and most Western leaders only show power against Arabs and their leaders. He believes most of these presidents are "cowards" who avoid battles to keep their thrones and follow a "zero movement" policy to prevent mistakes. The former Syrian leadership paid a high price for continuing the same path, becoming humanitarian refugees in Moscow. These leaders and their subjects forget that the Afghan resistance and lengthy war defeated the US. Iraqi resistance after the American invasion and occupation is similar.
Five important developments are co-occurring that could transform the Arab area and create a new Middle East with a distinct political, military, and sovereign composition:
First: Arab street confidence was restored by legendary steadfastness that led to a decisive Gaza Strip victory.
Second: All efforts to demoralise, displace, or uproot the resistance and incite insurrection have failed.
Third: A major deceit against the resistance, the breakdown of the Lebanon ceasefire deal, and the current spike in Israeli breaches (550 to date). After the Lebanese president's election, Amos Hochstein's political breach of agreements and understandings.
Fourth: Syria's fragility and transformation, as well as the possibility for intense resistance against the new administration and Israeli occupation, are reminiscent of Lebanon in the 1970s and 1980s. The Palestinian resistance might help Syria liberate Syrian regions and then all occupied Palestinian lands.
Fifth, Yemeni missiles, which continued till hours before the ceasefire, may never stop despite Israel, the US, and the UK's hostility.
We should avoid trusting Trump or being fooled by his actions, such as inviting him to a meeting.
