Angola authorises import of light vehicles up to six years old

The import of used passenger cars will be allowed in Angola for vehicles up to six years after the date of their first registration, their manufacture or use, according to a presidential order signed on Monday by João Lourenço.

The order also allows the import of used heavy road equipment, up to 10 years old, counting from the date of their initial registration, manufacture or use, said the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic.

Heavy vehicles intended exclusively for public passenger transport shall be processed similarly to used light vehicles, specifically being a maximum of six years old, counting from the date of first registration.

The order stipulates that the process of importing vehicles under these conditions will require, among other steps, the presentation of an inspection certificate that approves the vehicle’s technical state and conformity of emission of pollutants, issued by the competent authority of the country of origin and valid for a period of not less than six months, prior to the date of shipment.

The measures adopted aim, among other things, to facilitate the private purchase of passenger cars for personal use, putting an end to the restrictions on the import of used road vehicles, as a way of adapting to the current economic situation and production needs.
