Keke Palmer Talks Book on ‘CBS Mornings’
The actor, comedian, and game show host’s ‘Master of Me’ was published Tuesday by Flatiron.
Keke Palmer stopped by CBS Mornings to discuss her new book, Master of Me, with co-host Gayle King.
The actor, comedian, and game show host’s Master of Me: The Secret To Controlling Your Narrative, was published Tuesday by Flatiron, which calls the book “the inspiring true story of her journey to understanding her genuine value.”
King asked Palmer what message she hoped to send with the cover of her book, which features a photo of Palmer holding the strings of a marionette version of herself.
“As an entertainer, as a performer, it’s easy to just see that person one-dimensionally,” Palmer said. “For me, I’ve always been behind the scenes just as much as in front of my career. That’s what this book is about, how I did that, how I built my brand, and all the lessons, personal and business, that came with that.”
King noted that Palmer writes about her mother in her book, citing advice that she gave Palmer: “Don’t stay in one lane.”
“I think that when you don’t [follow that advice], you become a slave to the system,” Palmer said, “Part of self-mastery is diversifying and being able to say no to the things you don’t want to do, so you can have another option…not running out of choices, and being able to continue to express and evolve yourself.”
