Angola: World Bank approves US$150M financing
A US$150M loan was approved by the World Bank to support Angolan government projects in the water and sanitation sectors.
The financing was approved on June 21 of the current year, according to a press release from the World Bank representative in Angola to which Angop had access.
This additional funding from the Second Institutional Development Project for the Water Sector (PDISA2) will benefit some 1.2 million people in nine cities of the country with public water connection services.
As part of this project, the World Bank has already made available US$ 200 million.
"It is crucial to maintain the relevant gains from improved water services that the population has achieved with the first installation of the project, since poor water quality can cause disease and poverty," said Olivier Lambert, country manager of the World Bank (WB) for Angola.
The project, according to the WB official, in addition to focusing on building better infrastructure, will continue to strengthen water sector institutions and give the Government the tools to reform and improve the water and sanitation sector in Angola.
