We’ve heard it mentioned time and time again- do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. What people often struggle with in this regard is the execution. How can they turn what they love into a viable business? Where should they start? I hear these type of questions from aspiring entrepreneurs all the time.

Here are some of the most common roadblocks that I see and some of the methods that you can use to overcome them:

Fear. Becoming an entrepreneur is a big risk. You have to give up your steady income and structured position, and begin something else entirely from scratch not knowing when you’ll get your next paycheck. This thought can be very daunting for many. As such, it’s helpful to set yourself up for success in a way that simultaneously reduces this fear. For example, begin your business as a side hustle, and/or boost up your savings before your launch to carry you through until your business gains more traction.

Overwhelm. The idea of embarking on any large project seems like a huge amount of work and it is! Try looking at launching your business in smaller chunks or pieces to cut down on the overhwhelm associated with something so big. Nothing huge ever happens overnight.

Impostor Syndrome. Many people suffer from impostor syndrome or that feeling that they aren’t good enough, smart enough, or don’t have what it takes to be successful (particularly in business). Remnd yourself of all of your many positive traits and capabilities. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Lack of Planning/Research. Starting a business is never something that you should jump into lightly. You must do your homework related to your market, customers, target audience, product, competitors, and more in order to give it a proper go. Completing this work up front will help ease your fear and set you up for a successful launch.
