Cam Ward Trash Talks Shedeur Sanders: 'All You Did Was Throw Checkdowns'

Cam Ward versus Shedeur Sanders may someday prove to be a must-watch NFL matchup.

The two prospective first-round 2025 NFL Draft picks shared jabs while working out together at UNLV in a video shared Tuesday by Well Off Media.

"They gave you a completion percentage award and all you did was throw checkdowns and bubble screens. That's actually crazy," Ward told Sanders (10-minute mark.) "If I did that, my completion percentage would be 90. I throw the ball downfield, you don't."

Sanders protested: "You ran the ball. You had a run game."

Ward continued: "That's how you threw it. That's how you got a 70 percent completion rate. All you do is this: LaJohntay, bubble screen, touchdown. I ain't throwing no bubble screens."

Sanders told Ward he could find highlights of him throwing bubble screens, then laughed while telling the cameras: "Consistency, that's what he lacks."

The trash talk continued throughout the workout. At one point Ward saw Sanders leaving the field and said, "I hope you're not getting no water. We just had the first drill... that's how it is in Colorado, though. That's what it's like for a nine-win man."

Sanders countered: "I didn't have water. I drink Gatorade. The s--t I get paid for."

"That's cool. I don't need to get paid. Football pays me," Ward answered.

When Ward continued prodding Sanders about his screens later in the session, Sanders told him: "I'll do what my team needs to win. If we gotta throw screens, throw screens."

"So why you ain't do it in the bowl game?" Ward wanted to know. "You ain't do what your team needs to do to win the bowl game."

"You didn't either," Sanders pointed out. "You didn't do what your team needed you to do. You quit on your team."

"I guess we both suck," Ward concluded.

Sanders threw two interceptions in an Alamo Bowl loss to BYU, while Ward sat out the second half of Miami's Pop-Tarts bowl defeat by Iowa State.

Both Sanders and Ward are on the list of 15 quarterbacks invited to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which runs from February. 24 to March 3. Neither signal caller has yet committed to throwing at the combine.

The 2025 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 24 in Green Bay.
