Coors Banquet Protect Our West campaign supports
firefighting teams

Golden, Colorado

As the temperatures rise, so does the risk of wildfire. Each year, wildland firefighters put their own lives at risk to battle fires and help ensure the safety of their local communities.

Once again, Coors Banquet is helping to provide recognition, assistance and support to firefighters and their families. A few years ago, Coors Banquet started the Protect Our West (POW) campaign to support firefighters in our Western forests by offering financial support for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation provides aid to firefighters injured while battling grass or forest fires throughout the western region, and supports families of fallen wildland firefighters. Based in Boise, Idaho, the Foundation may also assist with travel costs to bring family members to the bedside of an injured firefighter, or could help replace lost wages during a firefighter’s medical leave.

Numerous community organizations around the West hold fundraisers and events to raise money to benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Initially a group of “hotshots” or wildland firefighters requested a donation of Coors beer for a fundraiser. The Coors company came back offering additional resources to raise funds. Now, Coors donates money from every purchase of a case or case equivalent of Coors Banquet beer to the Foundation. This annual campaign begins in May and ends in early September. It is available in Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

The Coors Brewing Company is a regional division of the world’s third-largest brewing company, the Molson Coors Brewing Company. Coors operates a brewery in Golden, Colorado, which is the largest single brewery facility in the world, according to the Oxford Companion to Beer.

Next time you’re hosting or heading to a summer get-together, grab some Coors Banquet for the shindig. In addition to enjoying a great beer, you’ll know you’re helping a worthy cause.
