Lake Effect
An Okanagan Escape at Eldorado Resort
Here, days unfold between the table and the lake, one pleasure leading easily to the next. Boats cut pale wakes across the water, glasses catch the afternoon light, and no one seems in a hurry to leave.
Manteo, where Maestro’s Mediterranean Restaurant & Terrace takes its cues from Valencia, Genoa, Split, and Nice, sets a coastal tone on the Kelowna waterfront. Grilled octopus rests on a stone fruit and tomato salad with white bean hummus, while the Boscaiola pizza layers morel mushroom cream sauce, BC mushrooms, and truffle salt. The Mediterranean Bouillabaisse brings fresh seafood to a sweet Aleppo chili broth, with charred bread alongside.
The terrace is the showstopper. Sprawling and fragrant, it is planted with olive and fruit trees and alive with fountains and herbs, transporting guests to the coastlines of southern Europe without ever leaving Kelowna. The restaurant and its guests alike describe Maestro’s as a place built around people, and lunch here has a way of stretching toward dinner.
For a change of pace, the Lakeside Dining Room at Hotel Eldorado showcases the Okanagan’s harvest alongside an award-winning list of more than 150 wines. The Pistachio Crusted Rack of Lamb, a Heritage Selection, is served with toma cheese polenta, while the Steelhead is paired with Yarra Valley salmon roe and a blistered cherry tomato beurre blanc.
The centennial has reached the menu, too. The 100 Day Dry Aged Butcher’s Cut is wet aged for tenderness, then dry aged for weeks until its flavour concentrates into a nutty richness.
Sweet endings complete the ritual. Executive Pastry Chef Bikram Sandhu’s Baked Alaska layers sponge cake and ice cream beneath torched meringue, and on Sundays, Heritage Afternoon Tea brings finger sandwiches, scones, and fine pastries.
On the water, Eldorado Yacht Club carries the resort’s long relationship with the lake forward. Reimagined from Eldorado Marina as the resort’s premium waterfront division, the club hosts social and corporate gatherings on the shore, while heritage boats moored among the contemporary vessels recall the Kelowna Regatta era.
Seasons change on Okanagan Lake, yet the pull of this place holds steady. Generations of families have returned here year after year, and first-time guests are quickly folded into the story. As the resort enters its second century, that continuity is what brings people back.
