We are all going to hit obstacles from time to time. There may be instances when we question our goals or talent, or when we experience a rejection or a setback. Any of these scenarios (and many more) can cause us to run into those mental roadblocks.

So, in order to overcome them when they happen, or to get past anything else that holds us back, we can take the following actions:

Get to the bottom of what’s bothering us. Sometimes, we just start to feel sluggish and are uncertain about the cause. It’s at those moments, that we have to dig deep, self-reflect and get to the root of what’s holding us back. If we don’t know, we can’t fix it.

Ask questions. At other times, we may feel that something in the external environment is hindering our progress. Perhaps we are making false assumptions here. That’s why it’s critical to seek feedback and determine the real reason for the obstacles. It’s often not what we’d originally assumed.

Remind ourselves of all that we have to offer. Maybe our confidence is waning and that has caused the mental roadblock. When I feel my confidence dip, I make a list of all of my accomplishments and achievements. Reviewing this list helps give me a confidence boost when I forget. It can work for you too.

Get a change of scenery. One of the best ways to get unstuck is to try to change the environment we are in so that we can gain a fresh perspective and broaden our mindset. This can mean anything from going for a walk to changing up our office space.

Take some time to relax. When we are more relaxed, our minds tend to wander more freely. So engage in meditation, yoga, playing music, or any other activity that calms your nerves and lessens your stress.

Just get started. Sometimes the mental roadblock has to do with feeling overwhelmed or not knowing where to start. In that case, the best way to combat it is to just get going!
