Mr. President Aoun, who is the traitor?
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's words today, in which he described direct negotiations and normalisation with the Israeli occupation state as "not treason" and aimed to end the war, were not surprising. According to him, the "traitor" is "Hezbollah" (without naming it), "which dragged the country into it to achieve foreign interests".This is the first time we, the sons of Arab and Islamic nations, have heard since the dawn of history that humiliating and dishonourable submission to the adversary is the pinnacle of valour and that resisting and confronting his aggression and occupation is the pinnacle of treachery. We don't know what "dictionary" General Aoun used to justify this action against the Lebanese people and us in general, as well as to humiliate and undermine the resistance. All heavenly and secular scriptures "legitimise" resistance to liberate the land, oppose all forms of invasion, and avenge all crimes committed against the people. These words by General Aoun, the former leader of the Lebanese army, are clearly in response to Sheikh Naim Qassem's statement from last Monday. His manner displayed the utmost elegance in its formulation and word choice, and he accused the Lebanese authorities of making a humiliating "free" concession by opting for direct negotiations, which he deems capitulation to the enemy. As sons of Greater Historical Syria, particularly from its southern region, we summarise our reaction to Mr Aoun in the following points.• First, the resistance, which General Aoun accuses of treason, liberated the occupied southern Lebanese region and forced the Israeli occupier to withdraw humiliated and defeated by a unilateral decision, without any negotiations, to minimise losses, while the official Lebanese army did not fire a single bullet at the occupier.• Second, the Lebanese state signed two ceasefire agreements with the Israeli occupation state, the first in November 2024, which stipulated a complete cessation of aggression and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the occupied southern Lebanese territory, and the second on March 2 of this year, under American sponsorship. The Israeli occupation state did not follow the conditions of either agreement, breaching the first more than 8,200 times, killing over 400 Lebanese residents, wounding 17,000, and occupying five southern Lebanese hills. The second agreement, signed two months earlier, increased the number of martyrs to 2,509, injured eight thousand, and evicted one and a half million people from the south as a reward for the Lebanese government's decision to disarm the resistance.Third, the Lebanese state unilaterally decided to engage in direct negotiations with the occupying state in Washington, without convening a referendum or even a legislative session to acquire consent to do so.• Fourth, disregarding the feelings of at least a third of the Lebanese people, who serve as the foundation of resistance from all religions and sects opposing this treachery and normalisation with the occupying state.Fifth, the bloody Israeli raids on Lebanon have not stopped for a single day since the first ceasefire agreement 16 months ago, and the Lebanese state, despite all of its concessions, has not been able to compel the sponsors and guarantors of this agreement to ceasefire and adhere to its other provisions, which include the return of all refugees to their villages and the start of the reconstruction process.• Sixth, despite the Lebanese state signing a maritime border demarcation agreement with the oppressive occupying state, as well as the concession of the "Karis" gas field, the agreement's sponsoring countries refused to allow the Lebanese state to extract a single barrel of oil or gas from its remaining fields. It is not surprising that the occupying power may have seized these fields and extracted all the gas and oil.• Seventh, the Lebanese resistance, which succeeded its Palestinian counterpart, was founded in 1985 to liberate Lebanese territory from Israeli occupation, not to defend Iran, as the current Lebanese government accuses. It played an important role in opposing the American occupation of Iraq and assisting the Palestinian resistance in Gaza in the face of annihilation and ethnic cleansing. It did not send a single fighter to the war in Iran, demonstrating its true Arab identity.Eighth, is standing in the trenches of the martyrs of the genocide war in Gaza, or even supporting the Iranian state, which Israel and America are attacking, considered a disgrace in the lexicon of the Lebanese authorities, especially since Iran has never hesitated to provide Lebanon with all possible assistance, particularly in terms of oil and money, at a time when most Arab and European countries, some of which participated in the blockade, abandoned it?Israel constructed a yellow line in the south, which it demolished by isolating 52 Lebanese villages, and is building a 10-kilometre-deep security belt to simulate its aggression against the Gaza Strip. It will not emerge from this belt with normalisation and surrender agreements only to forsake it, as was the case in the Shebaa Farms and all other occupied Palestinian territory between 1948 and 1967. Resistance is the only alternative that broke this pattern before 2000; otherwise, Antoine Lahad would have remained the dictator of the south and possibly all of Lebanon.Sheikh Naim Qassem was at the peak of wisdom and concern for Lebanon and its national unity, even toward its current ruling state, despite his rejection of its policies and concessions, when he urged it in his latest speech to abandon its surrender negotiations with the occupying state and return to its people to rally them behind it so that it would not be a partial authority, but rather the authority of the entire people, in accordance with the agreement that the Taif AWill President Aoun heed this wise and responsible advice? We hope so, since the alternative is division and possibly a long-term civil war, and the Lebanese people have yet to recover from the wounds of the first civil war in 1975.Finally, we can declare with confidence and based on historical facts that the Lebanese Islamic and national resistance has rebounded and re-emerged and has become an existential threat to the Israeli occupation. It will liberate the entire clean land of southern Lebanon and possibly even the occupied Galilee... The days are passing us by.
