Crews Called In To Battle Fire Near Old Faithful In Yellowstone

Smoke from a nearby wildfire settled over Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park on Monday as crews were headed to the area.

Few details about the Lone Star Fire that was sparked Saturday by lightning were available Monday morning. There were no updates on the fire's size, which was estimated at 300 acres Saturday evening, nor on efforts to fight the flames or to protect the Old Faithful complex with its lodges, stores, and employee housing.

On Sunday, the fire was reported to be 3 miles south of the Old Faithful complex.

The Grand Loop Road between Old Faithful and West Thumb was closed due to the fire. Backcountry closures included campsites near the Lone Star Geyser, as well as the Lone Star Geyser Trail.
