"Eyewitness to the Finsbury Park attacks says man driving into crowd shouted "I want to kill all Muslims!" - Nathan Lean, Twitter
At approximately 12:20am local time, a Citroen van plowed into a crowd of worshippers who were exiting the Finsbury Park Mosque. At least 7 injured, 3 “seriously” and one man has been taken into custody by the police.
The mosque was opened in 1994, at a ceremony attended by Prince Charles, and conveniently located, and is a centre for interfaith and anti extremist policies.
“Witness on sky news said there was 3 people in the van #FinsburyPark” - Eric Bantona; Twitter
A witness said he observed 3 people in the van, not certain if this counts the driver. As far as we know only the driver has been arrested…
The police have not made any official statements on motive or if this was an accident or an act of terrorism.
The van was rented from a Wales-based company, Pontyclun Van Hire. It is a medium-large Citroen van, a 2007-2010 model similar to this one.
As the situation develops we will report as more information is released by the Police, Hospitals and perhaps any terrorist organisation that could claim responsibility if it is not a “lone-wolf”… A horrible incident in a city that has seen far too much death and hatred recently, if this turns out to be an intentional act of terrorism, it will destabilise the communities further.
Speculation on the race, religion or motives of the driver is irresponsible until we can confirm details; the Police will release a statement as soon as they are able to, or perhaps the Mayor or Prime Minister if it turns out to be yet another act of terror.
