Ogden Pioneer Days 2017

This Ogden Pioneer Days 2017 Rodeo will be in Ogden, Utah, during the week of July 19 through 24 at the historic Pioneer Stadium where this rodeo started in 1934. This is a major annual event of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). It is one of the best and biggest Utah celebrations, and for two years in a row it has been recognized as one of the top five largest outdoor rodeos by the PRCA.
This is also the Wilderness Circuit's best rodeo and draws more than 30,000 visitors annually. The whole family will be captivated during the five nights of hand-slapping and blood-pumping rodeo entertainment.
History
In 1934, the City Mayor, Harman W. Peery, helped organize a festival to celebrate Utah's statehood, be a tribute to the men and women who trekked into the wild west. boost the spirits and entertainment of the locals, and encourage visitors to the city. He wanted it to become a national attraction that would continue for many years to come, and he got his wish.
Some of the original attractions were outrageous including a favorite beard-growing competition. That was initiated by the local police, who wagered on who would itch to shave first!
HORSE AND HITCH PARADE
July 17 – Monday, - 7:00 PM - Downtown Ogden
See every breed, color, and size of horse imaginable. Hundreds of entries from the Mountain West will bring their horses, carriages, and wagons. All those participating will be treated to a free picnic in the park after the parade.
GRAND PARADE
July 24 – Monday at 9:00 AM
This will run through the heart of the city. The route starts on 31st Street and ends on 20th Street. Spectators by the thousands will be lining up along Washington Boulevard to cheer the marching bands, youth dance groups, floats, area schools student body representatives, antique automobiles, horse drawn carriages, and more.
Miss Rodeo Ogden
McKaylie Richins of Coalville, age 19, won the crown after a pageant on Saturday, April 15. She also captured the awards for appearance, horsemanship, photogenic, public speaking, and appearance awards. She will serve as the public face of these Pioneer Days.
Whoopie Girls
These Whoopie Girls are amazing horsewomen who ride every night of the rodeo, and fly the flags of valued sponsors. They are chosen by audition and care for and provide for their own horses. They are goodwill ambassadors for the Pioneer Days, make appearances, and participate in many of the events and activities during the month-long celebration.
National Day of the Cowboy
The mission of this nonprofit organization is to help preserve America’s cowboy heritage and share and perpetuate the culture and history through education, celebrations, rodeos, gatherings, the arts, and community activities.

ProRodeo Hall of Fame
The Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo is honored to be listed among the 2017 inductees who will be entered into the Hall. The ceremony will be held on August 5 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is where the famous hall is located.
