Angola needs a law on atomic energy

Angola is depending on the approval and ratification of a set of legal toolsto fully benefit the possibilities of using atomic energy for specific purposes, said on Monday in Luanda the Secretary of State for Energy, António Belsa da Costa.


The official, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of a Workshop promoted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which aims to discuss issues related to the Atomic Agency’s Technical Cooperation Programme.

In the meantime, the official urged those in charge to approve and ratify with celerity the referred laws, since the country need them to get into the group of countries that benefit from the atomic energy.

António Belsa da Costa also underscored that the approval of these legal tools would enable the country to establish a framework of reference for the technical cooperation programme between Angola and IAEA for the period 2019 - 2023.

The five-day Workshop also intends to alert the Angolan authorities to a more profitable participation in the, atomic energy matters, to identify the top priority areas of technical cooperation of the government and to start the revision of the National Framework Programme for the above period.

The IAEA experts will also work with Angolan representatives on the five local projects to be carried out during the period of 2020-2021.
