Free Concerts, rodeo part of Ak-Chin Indian Community’s Masik Tas celebration
Maricopa, Arizona
Masik Tas or “Birthday” events celebrate the formal recognition of the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The Masik Tas Celebration was established ten years ago. This year will again provide fun for the whole family including free concert with national entertainers, four days of rodeo, and a free carnival that starts on Friday, December 8.
On Friday, December 8, Clay Walker and Parmalee take the stage, with special guest Kasey Tyndall. Clay Walker has had numerous number-one country songs and four platinum-selling albums. Meanwhile, Parmalee mixes a country-rock sound with traditional country and blues. Kasey Tyndall’s debut single, “Everything is Texas” saw great success on the Wild Country Spotify playlist, and the video hit top 10 on CMT’s 12 Pack Countdown.
Enjoy this great trio of country music! Doors open Friday, December 8, at 6 p.m., with Kasey Tyndall taking the stage at 6:30 followed by Parmalee at 7:30 and Clay Walker at 9. Bring blankets or low-back lawn chairs for the outdoor show.
Come back on Saturday for cultural demonstrations and entertainment including a Vaila dance from 2 p.m. to midnight, open to the public. All entertainment takes place at Ak-Chin Circle.
The Masik Tas rodeo competition held at Ak-Chin Circle Arena offers thrills to spectators and contestants alike. Don’t miss the chance to meet this year’s arena director, Charlie Sampson. Sampson won the world rodeo bull riding championship in 1982, and was the first African-American to win a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Title. Sampson will be available to sign autographs and take photos with guests.
The rodeo kicks off on Thursday, December 7, with an open jackpot roping. Registration opens at 5 p.m., and events start at 6. Friday, December 8 features Senior Quad Roping with contestants aged 40 and older. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event starts at 9.
Saturday, December 9 features Riding events open to all, and a Junior Rodeo for Native American contestants only. After Junior events, experience the thrill of Novice Bull Riding and Open Bull Riding. On Sunday, December 10, enjoy team roping with events starting at 9 a.m. All rodeo events take place at the Ak-Chin Circle Arena west of the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle.
