Devin Booker Reportedly '10 Toes Down' with Suns amid $150M Contract, Trade Rumors
Devin Booker remains committed to the Phoenix Suns as they head into an offseason that will likely see them trade at least one key star, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim MacMahon.
Windhorst reported in Monday's episode of the Hoop Collective podcast that Booker is "willing" to sign a two-year, $149.8 million extension with the Suns. That's the most they're allowed to offer right now.
MacMahon chimed in to say the four-time All-Star is "10 toes down in Phoenix," though that comment may have been made somewhat facetiously because he immediately referenced Damian Lillard.
Lillard told Tim Bontemps of ESPN in November 2021 he was "10 toes in Rip City" as his future with the Portland Trail Blazers was in question. Two years later, he requested and received a trade out of Portland.
When it comes to the Suns, there's a sense of certainty about the fate of Kevin Durant. ESPN's Shams Charania reported in April that "the franchise is expected to work with Durant and his business partner and Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman on the next landing spot for the future Hall of Famer."
KD is eligible for free agency and the Suns are going nowhere in the short term. A divorce is in the interest of both parties.
Phoenix will have a full summer to find a Bradley Beal trade that works, too. Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports cited a source in April who said there's a "very low" chance Beal is still on the squad in 2025-26.
That would leave Booker as the last star standing and with a supporting cast that's in all likelihood worse than the one he has now.
But the 28-year-old has $150 million reasons to stick around, and his affinity for the organization is real. He's the Suns' all-time leading scorer already and the opportunity to become a Phoenix sports icon may be alluring.
Whether his mindset stays the same if the team struggles to contend moving forward is another question.
